I have been researching my Great Great Grandfather who was Henry George May, a sculptor who lived at May Villas in Byfield Road, Isleworth from the 1860s until his death in 1903. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts. Two of his sculptures are on display in Isleworth ibrary and a third is in the Royal Astronomical Society in Piccadilly, London. I recently found a couple of local articles about him written by Mary Brown and Rosemary Coomber in the Sundial Magazine 2001. I wondered whether there was any more local information about him. Thanks.

My grandfather Wm Champion ran a greengrocers shop at 2 Kenworth Terrace, Worple Road from about 1920 until 1930. I think this was adjoining the Kings Arms where Worple Road meets South Street. On older maps you can see a terrace there. Are there any old photos from this time? 1929 was the Great Depression. So many people didn\'t have enough money to buy food and it is said that that my grandfather gave away more food that he was selling. Consequently he had to sell up and move away with his young family.

In my family history research I came across Rev. John Doddridge who seems to have been a local Isleworth man of importance.

Re: Worple Road Infants School and Smallberry Green School

Good morning everyone. Absolutely fascinating to read teh posts. Thankyou.

I’m living in Sydney, Australia and researching my family tree. My fathers name was Dennis William Penn – he had three sisters. He was born in May 1937, and lived in Kilmorey Gardens. I believe Kilmorey Gardens had a bomb strike in 1942? He went to Worple Road Infants, then Smallberry Green aged 11. He left School aged 15 and went to Macfarlane and Lang Biscuits aged 15.

If you remember his name or anything about him / his family I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks

Karl

I was born at West Mid Isleworth in May 1943 and amazingly remember our house 26 Percy gardens being badly damaged by the doodle bug at 62 North Street on 29 Aug 1944 when seven were killed. Our front door was in the kitchen, glass was everywhere and the roof wrecked. Bit traumatic, I guess that\'s why I remember it. We lived in one room for ages. My Dad, a WW1 veteran, worked at Firestones and did fire watch. I went to St. Mary\'s Primary and Busch Open Air School for a while before Gunnersbury. Was in 4th Isleworth Scouts. Some of the names I remember and wonder how they are: Josie Blackwell, Margaret Lewis, Jennifer Uzzle, Joe Grant, John Griffin, Louis Carnack, Amanda Jakes, Christine Richards (Halliburton Rd). We left Isleworth in 1959 when Percy Gardens was demolished and replaced with flats. Now in Sussex. Does anyone have photos of pre-1959 Percy Gardens or have contact with anybody named above please? Many Thanks Geoff Bridger
