Maine’s upper Androsoggin River report

Water Temp 80.89 F Flow Rate 1579 @ Mead Westvaco in Rumford

I have guided for the last several days and the fishing for bass is the only thing that has been good. The Trout and browns are not feeding. There are some fish that are feeding at night near some scattered spring holes but most are sitting on the bottom of the deep pools.

I saw a nice 16-inch fat Rainbow swimming in circles in one spring hole I found while wet wading. I followed the cold water back up stream to the source. Even in fifty degree water The Rainbow looked stressed and wouldn’t take a fly for love or money.

The bass fishing on the other hand is holding up well. I had a client from Tennessee who caught a three ponder on a Baby Brook Trout Clouser. That fish hit and came over two feet out of the water! It made the reel scream several times before coming to boat. This was only one of several bass we caught yesterday morning. We were on the river shortly after dawn and worked a five-mile stretch of the river above Bethel.

The best advise I can give is the fall will change every thing with some Rain and cooler temps. For now, fish at night or fish for Bass.

A man should believe in something….I believe I’ll go fishing.
