Androscoggin River report


June13th Water temp 53.67 Flow rate 10860 CFS @ Mead Westvaco in Rumford


I guided Friday through Monday and had steady fishing. Friday was on the river in Gilead and my party took two brown trout on what my client called the endless drift. The water was a little high then but clear. We worked the water well but outside of the two Browns couldn’t get anything else to take. The river was beautiful and no black flies of any amount to be a problem. A Great Day.


I guided the weekend up on the headwaters and had steady fishing with caddis and royal coachmen. One Landlocked Salmon was 18.5 inches and jumped four times. It was caught by a first time flyfisherman from Pennsylvania. He also caught three other Salmon that were smaller. It was a great opportunity to learn! He will never forget this trip to Maine.


All the clients I had over the weekend were novices and all caught wild Brookies or Salmon of a fly rod. I can’t think of a better way to start out. My last party was two friends. One was a minister and he must have had devine intervention. He outfished his friend five to one. Each caught brookies that were fat and healthy.


The rain we have got since the weekend has put the river almost to flood stage. The fishing should be excellent once the flow drops back to normal. Every time I go out on the river and see the size and length of the quality water it has I’m in awe.” A man should believe in something…I believe I’ll go Fishing”
