RE: Ruth Myers Ruth; the fundamentals for the beginner are: -good cage size ( each birds needs roughly 1.5 sq. feet of personal space). -good diet: greens, seeds ( i prefer pellets less messy) egg food, mineralized cuttle bone ( can be made easily in food processor with cuttlebone and mineralized grit)sprouted seeds ( a must for raising gouldian babies), and of course -plentry of good light what to avoid : -escapees ( if a bird escapes turn off the lights and catch it). Escapees can fly into windows and seriously injure themselves. -placing birds in kitchens ( fumes from the stove and certain cookware can be harmful) - keep it's nails trim with cement perches or a small brick or rock in the cage for it to lite on. Very informative site. My question is as a new breeder what do you suggest is the best diet for my finches. I have 3 lady gouldians and may breed in the future but for now I am only intrested in maintaining their health. Thank You Ruth |
