Dear 243rd Association Members, My father, former Lt. Harry J. Semenock of Hq Battery, passed away March 17 peacefully of pneumonia. By 2005, when I began attending the 243rd reunions, Dad was not physically able to make the journey across country. He did very much enjoy the well wishes, news and stories I would relate to him when I returned. He was saddened by news of the passing of his friend Bud Harrison and smiled ear to ear when I told him of my visit to see pilot Vernon Lamoureaux in North Carolina. Harry's obituary is online at the funeral home website, where you can share a memory, at http://www.becksfuneralhome.com/obituary.php?id=881# and also at the Seattle Times online at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/seattletimes/obituary.aspx?n=harry-j-semenock&pid=149440912 The funeral is Friday and will include military honors with taps at the cemetery. See you in October in Providence. Mike |

Just wanted to let folks know that both my parents have passed. My Mom, Ginnie Burgess diedMarch 1, 2006 and Dad, Stanton Burgess passed August 30, 2010. Both thoroughly enjoyed the reunions and looked forward to them all year. I have had the good fortune to attend a couple reunions with them. |

Congratulations and many thanks to Nancy Nolan, Janet O'Connor and members of their family, who organized the 2010 reunion and made it a huge success! The large turnout of family members made this year's turnout the largest in several years. We were all pleased to welcome Sam Katz to his first reunion. He met with the other veterans for the first time since 1945. We're all looking forward to next year's reunion in Providence, RI. Mike |

I am the daughter of Pfc Edward Staebel also classified as a Tech 5. I am looking for information about my father and his involvement in the war. I've tried to search the army records but it seems those documents were destroyed in a fire in St Louis some time ago. My most ferverant question is, 'What did my dad do to earn 4 bronze stars?'. I want to find out anything about the company ect that my dad was with. Any suggestion for how to find info if the army is at a dead end? Thanks for your help, Carol Robbins |

Craig and James, I got your emails and will respond shortly. I'm the son of Lt. Harry Semenock of Hq Battery, so I pass along requests to vets of the 243rd for remembrance of battalion members. I will look to see if there is any record of your family members in the unofficial battalion records or in "Battle Diary," the published diary of the battalion. Thanks for checking in on the web site and researching the history of our fathers, grandfathers, and other relatives of our nation's Greatest Generation. Mike |

sorry to bother anyone but I am trying to find info and possibly photos of my grandpa's unit during world war 2. His name was Robert Camfield and i know that he was with the 243rd field artillery "B Battery" from oct.1943 to 1946. Any info would greatly be appreciated because he would never talk of the war and we new that he had some mental scars from the fighting. Thank You |

Would love to see the 243rd "Battle Diary" reprinted. I read and re-read that book dozens of times as a youngster. |

All, I've started a Facebook page for the 243rd Association. If you haven't received an invitation to join, just go to Facebook and type in 243rd in the search field. You'll see several groups, but ours says 243rd Field Artillery Battalion Association and has the battalion crest as the photo. I am the administrator and have to approve requests to join, so let me know who you are and how you relate to the battalion on your request. Or send me an email with your email address and I 'll send you an invitation. I've poated a few photos from the 2008 reunion and we have three members so far. Email me with any questions. Thanks, Mike |
