As with other posts, my initial collection perished when my family moved house in the late 70s. I recall the content causing quite a stir when I left a couple of copies in a public area on a school trip. Effectively 18+ material in the hands of an 11 year old, not difficult to see the attraction. |

I once had a poem published on the letters page - Each line spelled out the initials of Action - 'A is for Anxiety which I have every week' was the first line. I can't remember it all, but the last line went: 'All these letters spell ACTION, the only comic for me, it really is a bargain at only 7p' Looking back, it's crap, but I was proud of it at the time and still am as I'm a part of history surrounding this great comic. My selected prize was a £1 postal order - a lot of money in those days! Can anyone tell me which edition my poem was in? |

Additional comments: |
My younger brother and I read Action as a youngsters back in New Zealand. I had forgotten practically everything about this comic (except HJ) until I found this site. Thank you so much, it's wonderful to read these issues again!! An interesting story that I have never forgotten: I was only about 7 years old when we started getting this comic. I remember staying overnight at my best friends house for the first time. He had a large family (parents and 3 older sisters in their late teens/early 20s). We were all sitting at the dinner table and for some reason I started telling them about this new comic - Issue 2 was the latest. I described in detail the demise of the mailman in Hook Jaw, all bloody and his pants coming down (the pants coming down I distinctly remember describing). I couldn't quite understand the reactions of my friends family. Anyway, that's the one enduring image of Action that has stuck with me all these years. The unfortunate mailman. Thanks again. I'm sure you have touched many people with this site in the same way you have affected me. |
