Lump on my dog's ear

Hello, A few days ago I noticed a proportionately large bump on my dog's ear. It is about the size of an eraser on a pencil. I looked at it again this evening and it was bright red with one small balck spot in the center of it. I tried to touch the spot to see if it was debris or a part of the lump, but my dog did not want me to touch it at all. She does not seem to be in any type of pain, only annoyed with I touch her ear. Does anyone know what the bump might be? i will take her to the vet on Saturday, but if it is something urgent, I might want to have it looked at earlier. please offer any advice/suggestions.

Thank you,

Julia

Re: Lump on my dog's ear

hi, my name is David. My boxer has a lump that i have been looking for info. about. i think mine is a little bigger, about the size of a small grape, and has lost the fur, but only at the lump location. please let me know if your is simular, thanks

Re: Re: Lump on my dog's ear

Mine does not have hair on it either, but it is more the size of a raisin. It seems to be irritating her...she does not whine about it but she used to love when I play with her ears, but now, if I touch it, she shakes her head and walks away or turns around.

Re: Re: Re: Lump on my dog's ear

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in the posts. I have been on a (much needed, in my opinion) vacation.

It's impossible to say what a lump is without looking at it, and even then it can be difficult to say what it is without doing a biopsy. In a younger dog, a lump might be an insect bite or a localized infection; in an older dog, warts and tumors are much more likely.

With any lump or bump, a vet check up is recommended. If the growth doesn't seem painful, then it likely isn't an emergency situation. If the the lump came up quickly, is bleeding or seems sensitive to the touch, then it is wise to see the vet right away.

Good luck your pets. They will grow the craziest things sometimes.

Re: Lump on my dog's ear

My 2 year old male (neutered) Geman Shepherd also has a lump/cyst on his outter ear, near the tip. It too was a very, very bright red. My Vet is away for another week so I had a younger Vet look at it. She wasn't sure what it was but said it was not a wart (as I had thought it was). Since then (2 days ago) it looks as if he's scratched it as there was a bloody crust on it. I cleaned it with Peroxide and the blood looked "old". There was a little scab that has also formed, but I guess I disturbed it when I was cleaning it because it bled (red blood vs. the old brown-coloured blood). It doesn't seem to be bothering him very much so I will wait until my Vet returns.
If it clears up on it's own, should I still get it looked at soon?

Re: Re: Lump on my dog's ear

Hi,

It seems reasonable to wait until your veterinarian is back to get it checked out. If it clears up completely, then I don't see the need to get the area checked out again . . . unless you want to make absolutely sure that everything is okay.

Good luck with him,

Re: Re: Re: Lump on my dog's ear

My boxer also has a lump on the edge of his ear. His ears are not clipped. I noticed the lump a couple of weeks ago and it seems to have gotten larger. He does not complain about it, nor does he mind when we try to touch it but it has no hair on it and it is crusty looking. Any ideas?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Lump on my baby boxer

I just bought a baby boxer about nine weeks old. When we got home i noticed that he has a lump on the back of his neck and another lump down by his armpit.. I'm really worried about it though it doesnt seem to bother him too much, he just itches at it a lot. Should i be worried?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Lump on my baby boxer

Hi,
If you just bought a boxer, the first thing you should do is take him to a veterinarian for a full check up. Obviously you will talk about the lumps at that time.

I don't know what they could be but I do think they should be checked out.

Good luck with your new family member
