sore spot on dog's leg

I have a three year old male Jack Russell. Within about a week and a half, I have noticed a red sore on his front leg around his joint area. It is not bloody, and I haven't seen him hurt himself (he is only outside on a leash with me) Also, it doesn't seem to have healed at all. Do you have any advice about what it may be? How do I know if he needs to see a vet regarding it? I'd hate to have to pay for them to tell me it's just a sore and will heal on its own. I also don't want to let it go if it may be something more serious. Thanks for all of your help. --Kristen

Re: sore spot on dog's leg

Hi Kristen
A sore in that location may be just a sore . . . or it may be something more serious. I know that isn't very helpful but there is no way for me to tell if this is a simple or more complex problem without taking a look at your Jack Russell.

If you want piece of mind, then spend the money and get a vet to have a look. If he/she says it is nothing to worry about, then you can put your mind at ease. If it does turn out to be more serious, then at least you got it looked after.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Good luck,
