writing citations?

hey all-
I am currently undergoing the hiring process for my local pd to become a reserve officer. I did the testing, and underwent the interview and they hire the top five, which includes me. Anyway, I have been reading on this forum and other CSOs say that they issue citations for municipal violations and parking violations. What I am wondering is, what municipal violations are we talking about? I was told that we will be issuing tickets for parking and probably for other municipal violations but I was just wondering for what?

Re: writing citations?

Devin,

Other than parking violations, we write municipal tickets for "open burning", "dog running at large", "excessive noise(dog barking)", "illegal watering", etc.

Re: Re: writing citations?

We write only parking tickets in Manatee County, FL. But when I was a CSO in Pinellas Park, FL in 1981 I wrote parking tickets and all city ordinance violations. I didn't like doing the ordinances particularily, people got to steamed under the collar when you tell them what they can or can have on their property etc. I would like to know if there are any resources for seeing what CSO's/PSA's/Whatever get paid. My agency just started their program 2/07, I want research to back up my request for raises. Can anyone help out there?

Re: writing citations?

Municipal violations....aka city or village ordinance.

There are state and village ordinances, CSO, PSA, or PA, are not allowed to write a state ordinance ticket. Only local ordinances passed by the city or village board. Your dept. should have a large book for local ordinance violations, for example: dogs running at large, parking left wheel to curb, noise complant, village or city sticker violation, time limit parking, handicapped parking, Notice to appear (NTA) smoking within 15feet from public door way, public intoxication, urinating in public, the list goes on and on....
Hope that helps
