Well ladies yesterday I lost my job of 29 years and 10 months. I knew this was going to happen but the way they did it just makes me so mad. We weren't shown any respect at all. These people knew 2 months ago that they were going to lay us off ( five people in my shop) and they didn't even have enough respect for us to let us know until the very last minute. two of us have worked there for almost 30 years one for 18 and the other two for at least eight years. The real kicker is they announced the fact they were closing the shop one year to the day that Jimmy was murdered also they changed our vacation policy so they wouldn't have to pay us our vacation pay. I should have gotten four weeks of vacation pay two thousand three hundred dollars but instead I got three hundred and fifty one dollars. Then they ask if we have anything to gather up and watch us like we are going to steal something until we leave. Well I already had my things gathered up so I just grabbed them and headed out the door, got in my little car and didn't look back.
Love and Hugs
Gees Shirley! I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you! It seems so many people are getting the axe these says, and these companies are changing their benefits without telling you. They watch you so you won't do anything to their computers or stock on your way out.
Hon, just take a deep breath and think of some kind of job that you would be happy doing, but don't forget you get unemployment, and from what I've seem from my sons, it's nothing to sneeze at. Also, you can get a medical card and grub stubs (food stamps) for quite awhile too. Don't be embarassed, we've paid taxes for years so now you can get some of your tax money back when you need it.
Oh Shirley that is a disgrace. It seems like because the economy is so bad, that it's ok to treat people badly. I don't get it at all. I'm sorry you had to go thru this after all those years, but people can be cruel can't they. You should check the labor board and see if they were allowed to change the vacation policy like that knowing they were going to let people go. Sounds like they did it so they didn't have to pay for the time, but that is earned time and you should be paid for it, not scammed out of it.
Good for you being able to just waltz out like that, sorry that you had to go thru this, it saddens me to think this and scares me the same time. Too many people losing jobs and homes, etc. But we've been thru such pain that no one should ever have to endure! I hope all goes well for you and know you are in my prayers.
i am so sorry my prayers are with you i lost my job after 10/half years.
Well girl you were kinda figuring they were going to do that. It doesn't make it any easier though does it. Well like the other said, take a deep breath, hunker down and start spitting out those T shirts and mugs. and take time stop and smell the roses. At least now you have the time for a road trip.
Hang in there, I know after losing Jimmy this is just a cake walk in the sceme of things.
Shirley I am so sorry that ya'll were treated like that. it is getting scary isn't it? We are on furloughs so I am thankful I still have a job but pink slips did go out. mail makes me anxious now. :( My prayers are with you and you better get started on that t shirt shop now. Love you lady.
Like Kayt said and like I told a lot of people when they asked what I would do. I have lived through a hell of a lot worse. I am going to take a little time just for me, I only took three weeks off work when Jim was murdered so as not to burden the company so I am now going to take that time I should have taken. I went on line and signed up for unemployment I will be fine with that I really don't have any bills other than my house payment you see I saw this coming a long time ago and started getting prepared for it. My momma didn't raise no dummies. I love you all so much and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Now I will be able to chat later than 7:30.
Love and Hugs to all my sister moms.
Sorry you got laid off.
Really sorry about not getting paid for your unused vacation, that really sucks!
Don't forget that being laid off hits people hard
because it is a loss.
Honey, you've had your fair share already! Don't let
it get you down. Like Kayt said it is minor compared to what you've been through.
I tell people that I can handle what ever comes my way
because I'm the mother of a murdered child.
Hang in there sister mom!

p.s. The way you were treated by the company is standard operating procedure in this type of situation. It hurt my feelings when I went through the same thing. Being escorted out is so demeaning after all the years and dedication.
Dear Shirley As said previously by the only people who understand a loss this is small potatoes compared to what you've been through.I've seen this happen so often that I decided to get everything that's coming to me before they dirty dog me.I use whatever vacation or sick time I have now.Aside from a little time I accumulate due to the trial dates I take it all.Good for you that you've been squirreling away and while you're waiting for your t shirt business to start up I look forward to you making some more videos or Kimi's.You have a definite calling in that area, and I've enjoyed immensely the stuff you produce. If you get bored I always love the stuff you send over to Nicky's site.God Bless you girl and no mama didn't raise no fool.I do think you have some kind of case about their jipping you of money though unless they went bankrupt. Here's hoping we all get in chat together soon God Bless and many many hugs to you Love Barb
I just got around to reading a few of the posts today. Girl this has never happened to me. It would have ticked me off too. Oh, wait a second, one time a long long time ago, in the land of Arkansas I got suspended from Tyson Foods in Pine Bluff. I was so embarrassed, I was crying and went to the bathroom I got a roll of toilet paper and took it to my office and the security guard kept looking at me like I was going to steal the toilet paper, I purposely unrolled a great big long long piece and wadded it up and spit a great big loogie in it and left it on the desk. ha ha shook the dust from my shoes as I left, sob's done me a favor that day.
I hope you are going to be ok. Start the Tshirt thingy
We back you!
big kisses for you and Jimmy
