Re: Small Sided Games

Andrew: thats a very good Q because I came unstuck on the ssg. Would'nt it be a good idea to have a video dedicated to the ssg ? as a point of ref.

Re: Re: Small Sided Games

The Level 2 does come as a shock to most inexperienced coaches especially the Small Side Games section.

The easiest way to describe it is to first remember the format.
Normally it will be 6 v 6 ( 5 outfield + Gk)in a 60 x 40 area
Next , only coach ONE side
Next, start positions are vital: gk 2 backs 1 midfield and 2 forwards in a Domino 5 shape 2 -1-2 so we have 2 backs defending 2 forwards, 1 v1 in the middle and 2 forwards attacking 2 defenders.
Then we have Key Factors that we wish to coach depending on the topic we coaching.
The most important factor of all is the coaching formula:
PLAY - STOP (coach mistake only if valid) - TAKE PLAYERS PLACE - REHEARSE - RESTART(live)

Coach while the ball is moving, don't stop it.
Structure the session depending on the topic.
State any condition play
If Attacking coach Defenders first ( gk)
If Defending, coach Attackers first ( strikers)
Only coach what you see - Don't fabricate a scenario just so that you can coach it.
Try to use Question & Answer style of coaching as much as you can to check the players understanding of what you are coaching.

Hope this helps
