Some great memories have been made with some great kids recently catching their first salmon. A 5 yr. old angler caught and released his first salmon last week. His fish weighed almost 4 lbs and he played it himself.
With rod handle between his legs he could reach the reel and he cranked the fish all the way to the net. For him this would be comparable to an adult catching a 20lb fish.
Another evening with Tom and Eddy from N.J. the thunderstorms threatened but never manifested. We had great action,we caught and released 8 salmon and lost a couple others at the boat. The next morning catching was a little slower but Dick from pa. caught and released a beautiful brook trout with a lot of color as well as a salmon or two.
Dom and his 7 yr. old daughter from Mass. had a great evening catching 5 salmon with the largest being 3.5 lbs and 21". This was more fish than she wanted to deal with so Dad had to reel it in at the end of it. The majority of these fish have been very healthy with average or better than average growth rates.
