The End Is Near

Certainly the reference is only for the season, but it
does give one pause to reflect on how quickly ours
passes by. September holds the promise of "That big
one I've always hoped to catch," and that even though
it comes to an end, we'll will renew again next year.
Present thoughts would be patience with the Kennebago,
for though there are some nice 16"+ trout in, the
greater numbers are yet to arrive. We continue to be
cool and dry in a relative sense, and need only some
tropical storm remnants of just a rainy couple of days.
There will be stoneflies and caddisflies still about
but likely not too much else that is predictable.
Upper, Middle, and the Aziscohos dams all have decent
flows and the prospects for fish are reasonable in all
of them. Even if the fish aren't cooperative, the
early leaf changes and crispness in the air do the soul
immearsurable good. Pack a bag and come on up. There
aren't that many fishermen yet, for at least another
week. My personal favorites for this time of year are
bright streamers, but talk to ten fishermen and you'll
have ten great suggestions. Fishing is living, it's
the catching that's work.
