Black Flies and fishing

The old saying is "when the black flies are biting so are the fish" well, the black flies are biting. One day last week we gave a fly casting lesson to a father and son and after 2 hours of standing and practice casting we took off for a small pond back in the hills. The pair learned their lessons well, and in 4 hours we caught and realeased 64 trout. These are not bragging size fish,(6to 9")but a lot of fun for new fly fishermen and a great way to get started. Another day I took 2 old customers to one of my favorite ponds and this pond produced brookies up to 16" the smallest being 11"and all 32 were released unharmed. Still another day we fished the Rapid River and were somewhat dissapointed as we caught only 5 salmon between 12to 16" and no trout. All in all it was a good week and it looks like the hatches have started and the fish are biting.
