Androscoggin River report

water temp 50.69 flow rate 3535 C.F.S. @ Mead paper in Rumford on May 13th with overcast and drizzle.

For those of you who have not had an opportunity to fish Maine’s upper Androscoggin River yet you are missing an excellent chance for a Great fishing experience!

The river is now starting to produce. Several people have taken some 10” to 15” Rainbows in the last few days. The fish were taken both with hardware and streamers. I know a couple of good nymph fisherman that consistently take some VERY nice fish.

Someone watched a drift boat working the section down from shelburne N.H. come through the wild river area this past weekend.

The State of New Hampshire is making the river above the Maine Line a Catch and release “Trophy water.” A boat ramp will be operational by this October in Shelburne. The Maine biologists are looking for input to manage the Maine side of the border. The opinion is that because this stretch hasn’t got a mantainable wild population of Rainbows and that supplamental stocking is required. The river could benefit from setting a size slot limit Vs. Catch and release trophy water management.

The biologists need time to study the available spawning grounds in the Swift River, Sunday River ,and possible sites on the Wild River. They need local input. Let them know what you think!
