Mid-Summer Fishing

It's been a while since I've done this, and it probably
has to do with the fact that fishing just seems to stay
stable this time of year. That's not to say that it is
terrific, and it's not that it is bad. It's just
"ho-hum" sort of stuff. Certain tailwater fisheries
continue to get plenty of action with stoneflies and
caddisflies, and there are numbers of fishermen using
terrestrials already, with success! There is no lack
of opportunity to get fish, but I don't see any trophy
fish being taken in any of the rivers at this point. I
know some of the lake fishermen we still see, are
definitely finding more nice fish now that the lake
thermocline has set up at 40 - 45'+/-. That's a trend
that will continue now through the fall fishing. One
interesting note, there apparently has been some water
released from Kennebago Lake this weekend, as the
river level has come up sharply. I don't know what
that will mean for fishing, but I will be going in to
see firsthand this Sunday. Rapid River weekend flows
will be up for two more weeks after this one, and
then it's back to the Magalloway for August 16th and
17th, and a couple more weeks after that. Mostly, I
hope people are not thinking there is no decent
fishing here, because there is and always will be
something happening. See you soon.
