About us

Research Councils UK (RCUK) is the strategic partnership of the UK’s seven research councils who collectovely invest around £3 billion per year in research, postgraduate training and knowledge exchange.

Reporting to the RCUK Head of Analysis this role will be based within the Policy and Analysis area of the RCUK Executive Directorate. This role will be dedicated to leading on the collective evidence and evaluation needs of the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and will involve working in close partnership with the RCUK GCRF team and evidence and evaluation colleagues across the Research Councils and other GCRF delivery partners. On occasions, this might also incorporate evaluations of other ODA (Official Development Assistance) research initiatives such as the Newton Fund and legacy ODA programmes, which provide important contexts and benchmarks for GCRF.

The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) is a £1.5 billion fund announced by the UK Government to support cutting-edge research that addresses the challenges faced by developing countries through:
•Challenge-led disciplinary and interdisciplinary research
•Strengthening capacity for research and innovation within both the UK and developing countries
•Providing an agile response to emergencies where there is an urgent research need.

About you

To excel in this role it is essential that you are educated to degree level or equivalent or you have the ability to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge. You will need strong communication skills and be able to produce concise well written documents. You will also need to be organised with excellent planning and time management skills.
