Firstly that has to be the worst grammer I've seen today, although you do deserve congratulations for being able to write full sentences instead of tlk tlk. The meaning of life? According to the HitchHiker's guide it's 42. But Since the HitchHiker's guide is a fictional book, we can't trust that 42 is the meaning of life. Myself? I say that the meaning of life is different for every person, and we live life to discover what the meaning of life is. Religions will say we are alive to allow us the chance to go to some form of heaven, and thusly become one with/get close to a deity of some kind. Or that life is a gift that we must use to reach enlightenment, or get close to 'God'. My views on the HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy, are that it is one of the best series of books that I've ever read. Though the second and fifth book weren't as good as the fourth or first. The thrid was in the middle of the scale. I liked the way it was written, the humour involved, and the theories about life the universe and everything. |

I heard the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy was a good book, but not a very good movie. Either way, as Razten said, the book is fictional so 42 isn't the actual meaning of life. The meaning of life can be found by asking why God created us. He created us for relationship, thus I believe the meaning of life is to participate in a loving relationship with God. Something along those lines anyways, its a very difficult question. THEOPTOMIST |

Mmmmm i don't think there's just one meaning to life. i think we all have an individual 'purpose' in life, but 'meaning', i don't know...i guess it depends if you mean meaning TO life, or meaning OF life. life as a thing/concept itself, or what you do in life, why you do things... tricky!are they inter-related, or can you treat them separately? and is it things WE do that create meaning in life, or what happens to us/environmental stimuli that shape meaning in life? can we actually look back at the end of our lives and be able to see the 'meaning of life' in what we did, or what others did to us, or is it a bit useless a phrase in that respect. would you feel like you accomplished anything, and if so, is that the reason for life, or just something you happened to do and are proud of? Lol. im in a thoughtful mood, think you could probably tell...battle through those questions if you dare! |

Does the meaning of life really come down to how 'good' you live/lived your life? Surely any life is a good life? |

Mmmmm I agree with Rach. I think it's a misleading phrase. Part of the humour in that Hitch Hikers Guide thing is the idea that life could just be summed up so simply - right the meaning of life is "42" - it's a pretty irrelevant idea compared to the complexity of existence. I'm sure God has an individual plan for us all. I tend to think that even the little things happen for a reason, and as we work our way through life we affect so many people and situations in so many ways. You could do something you think is right but it could have terrible consequences, or you could do something you believe to be wrong and yet it may work out for the best. No, it's nothing to do with how 'good' you are. Even Jesus said that we shouldn't call him 'good' because no-one is good except God. Being happy, forgiving and kind to others is it's own reward - it makes you healthier in yourself (well, who wants to be sad, bitter and selfish?); and I believe it brings you closer to God because he wants us to be happy and healthy. To love yourself, other people and God - that's the meaning of life for me I think. Does that make sense or am I rambling...? It is very late!

As it was discussed in h2g2 the answer to life, the universe and everything is 42. However, this is not and never claimed to be the meaning of life. The rest of the main charecters journey during the book was spent trying to find the unitimate question of life, the universe and everything to which the answer is 42. However, they discovered that it is not possible for both the answer and the question to be known in the same universe. (Sorry, I'm a bit of a h2g2 freak!) Anyway, the meaning of life I think is to truely understand yourself and to live your life to its fullest. I personally think the only way this can happen is through Jesus. Interestingly, if you count the number of generations from adam to jesus as written by matthew you'll find the answer is 42..... |
