Fellowship.
Hiya. New member but I get word on the web emails. Was not aware there was an 'old' forum. Been on several other forums over the years. I am Christian and got a bit tired of having to defend it all the time on the last forum. I don't think Christians should hide from questions and scrutiny, just need the fellowship. |

I didn't run away from church because I was being attacked. I was simply tired of being in the baby class drinking milk when I should have been eating meat. Biblical scholars will recognize the writer to the Hebrews here. [Heb 5:12] |

guys, if u have the opportunity read "the purpose driven life" by rick warren, just finishing readin it for the second time have decided to re read it as much as poss, if u dont already know, it goes thru ur purpose in life as described in the Bible in 40 days, one of the 5 purposes of life included is fellowship. its absolutely vital that Christians have fellowship with eachother, to be interdpendant and just share love. u cant be a Christian and not be in the Church, its impossible. |

Hewbrews 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. great verse ;) |

how sentimental. however why were 'you attacked' at your last church/forum? i dont get it. and if you take a faith bashing and still believe in that faith doesnt make your faith stronger? if you suddenly thought that your faith was wrong and choose a different path, you probably werent that into it anyway. |

So true.if you give up because faith is hard, you've missed the entire point of faith - it IS hard! not that you should really have to put up with loads of pressure to give up, i mean, its not nice or fun, and if theres somewhere else you can go thats gonna be more beneficial to you, then sure, move, theres no point in being unhappy if theres a place thats gonna build you up more positively instead. i also have slight reservations about purpose driven life. its a great book, interesting read and all, but is a little commercialised for me. i guess i can just hear 'AMERICAN' throughout it, having looked at so many Christian authors writing similar kinda things. not that i dont think you should read it. you should. it will make you think and want to explore issues further if nothing else, which is always a good thing. |

I know a lot of people who have read the Purpose Driven Life and loved it. They've taken a lot from it and come out the otherside feeling a fresh sense of understanding. Which I suppose is a good thing. I started reading it, but to be honest I got a little bored. Maybe it was over hyped... However, I would recommend anything by Brian McClaren. I mention this guy's name to everyone I meet... he should start paying me for all this advertising! |

i can't imagine it would be incredibly useful going to a church where parts of the bible were skipped. I think Jesusfollwer did the right thing.

I think the term "bible basher" means that you're trying to lay into people about the bible - keep on probing them about it (excessively). That's my interpretation.. |

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy has this to say on the subject of Bible bashing; Entry not found. I have this t say on the subject of Bible Bashing; Bible bashing is where one reads the bible as though it were the thing keeping them alive. They read it and read it, re-afirming their faith. |

i'd say it was more reading it to other people - like in their face all the time |

'Bible bashing is where one reads the bible as though it were the thing keeping them alive. They read it and read it, re-afirming their faith.' Wow! i want to be a bible basher! if i could do that, i'd be pretty pleased with with how i was doing in life. it's generally been used as a derogatory term before though, being overpowering in your arguments, shoving Christianity down people's throats, not accepting their view, and so on. |

Not where im from. A Bible basher's most common trait is to be able to quote any random part of the bible. |

no you should speak dont hide the truth!!! and your speaking it plus dont worry about them giving you a hard time because the Lord is pleased with you and wouldnt the risk be worthy if it is for God plus maybe you should pray before you speak about what your going to say so that it doesnt end in an argument, just an idea and read some proverbs( but ask God to reveal him self through the stuff you read cos otherwise you'll just get bored God bless the lord is with you dont worry!

I fear we may have misunderstood each other. I absolutely think it's important to discuss your faith with other people. However, I believe it is more important to let THEM make the first move. In my opinion, we need to stop seeing "non-Christians" as something broken that needs to be fixed. We should start seeing them as human beings. Be friends with them. Listen to them. Treat them like Jesus treated the sinners around him. Stand up for honour and justice. Live with peace and discipline- People notice things like this. (After all, sort the plank out in your own eye before critising the speck in your neighbours.) Then they will ask you questions. They will start to uncover things for themselves. I find that someone who asks the question for themselves is much more likely to listen the answer... I believe it was St Francis of Assisi who said "Preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary use words." |

I agree with more Dave_S then anyone else here. There is nothing more annoying then a christian telling you that your wrong and that Jesus is the messiah, if you dont believe it. If you need to tell them, then let it be bit by bit, let them see how the ways of 'God' effects them. Just dont let them feel as though they are in the wrong. |

We're having a massive youth event in our area this summer called "The Noise". Basically showing God's love by cleaning the neighbourhood, cars and gardens all for free. What's more is that we're doing a free BBQ and quiz night for everyone who wants to come. Though there are Christian events going on at the same time. The main way we'll get evangelism done is by people asking "Who are you? Why are you doing all this for free?" The moto/slogan for the event is "Actions Speak Louder" (www.thenoisehuntingdon.com for more details) |

People can tell a mile away if you talk down to them, or treat them as if there's something wrong with them. And they're certainly not going to listen to someone who approaches them in that way! If, as a Christian, you are confident, calm, happy, sincere and kind in your everyday life then people do notice and respect you, and they will listen to you a lot more. I say this from experience of meeting other Christians who I really admired - I'm still getting there myself lol! It makes me sad when Christian hide away within a Christian culture; I don't think there are enough of us out there in the 'real world'. |

Oh and yeah, at my school a 'bible basher' was someone who was very forceful or judgemental in their beliefs. Like the guys you see in the street occasionally shouting about how we're all going to hell. But I guess it gets used differently in different dialects. |
