The nests are easily opened from the back.
All you have to do is to pop the back so that it comes out of the top brace. ( I use a flat haed screwdriver, but a butter knife or any flat haeded implement will work. All you have to do is gently slidecit through the top crack, or you can use the back handle.
Once that is done you can easily bend it and look inside. I too thought it was impossible but in fact after you do it once it makes it easier to do in the future. I now just pop them open using the back little pull.
Remember to pop it back in when you are done.
