Picnic Series
What a good day! It was great to see 23 boats out, either racing or cruising, and some of the juniors making their first solo voyages. Congratulations to Peter Hawkin for winning the series with an impressive 2 firsts and a second. I'm going to do a press report so please post any anecdotes about the day to this thread. Thank you! |

Wonderful to have so many juniors taking part. I had a great team of Christopher Becket and Rosie Thumbwood who shared the 'Trapoozing' evenly between them, even swapping trapeze harness mid beat! |

I just want eneryone to know that I had a great time racing Nutmeg in the picnic series. Thank you to my 5 crew for races 1 and 2 and my 2 novice crew for race 3. I also want all you racing fanatics to know that despite coming last in race 3, Nutmeg was in fact first over the start line .I look forward to more Drascombe Luggers joining in with the racing - no wet picnics on Nutmeg!

Mobile Galley was a hoot. Even if the OOD did try and convince Steve to drop me in the drink on the way home. It was a really nice way to be sociable whilst simultaneously getting everyone fed. And lovely to be able to enjoy the sun too. I was supremely jealous of those who were sailing and am praying for similar weather next weekend for the novices. Thanks should also go to Shuna who was left manning the club house (complete with hungry wind surfers) until I swanned home again, mercifully dry and sun hat still attached

I enjoyed the Picnic series because the picnic gave me all the energy I needed for my first race. Sam

With regard to "Nutmeg"s assertion of no wet picnics -we had a near miss in the Wayfarer that almost ruined the Gammack picnic ! It was "safely" stored in the Wayfarers rear storage space. Then half way across Kielder I remembered that I had borrowed a bung from the very same storage area the day before for our Mirror. Fortunately, the picnic was held in a large plastic box - albeit floating in a foot of water!

See report on the Yachts and Yachting website here: http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/?article=141408 The report should also appear in the report section of Dinghy Sailing Magazine (www.dinghysailingmagazine.co.uk), perhaps during next week. They must work late at Y&Y on a Friday evening as I didn't submit it until 5.30 today! |

The version of the report on the DSM website is updated from the Y&Y one, so more of the juniors get a mention. It may appear in the Hexham Courant as well. |
