Picnic Series - 11th May
As Nicola said in Neil's thread - "The Picnic Series is on 11 May and is the perfect opportunity to go racing with your picnic hamper. The usual format is a race in the morning, to the picnic destination, convivial picnicking, then a couple of races in the afternoon. It's a one-day series with 2 of the 3 races to count. People who don't want to race can cruise to the picnic location. If your boat does not have satisfactory hamper storage facilities, the patrol boat will transport your hamper for you. Previous Picnic Series days have been very jolly occasions and it's a good way into racing if you haven't done much (or any!) before. It's a good day for the Juniors as well." Just making sure people don't miss being reminded about this - it is an enjoyable series that can be shadowed by those wanting to Picnic and Spectate, rather than Compete. We will be there with gourmet picnic. |

I think the Picnic Series is a great opportunity to get everyone on the water - whether racing or not. If there is anyone reading this who intend to race for the first time - do you need a crash course on racing? I am sure we could have a few threads on - the start, the middle bit (course), the finish and some very basic rules. Please reply to thread if this is required. Its also worth mentioning that the rose-tinted spectacles distant weather forecasting service that I use predicts a sunny day with white fluffy clouds - even better ! See you on the water (with picnic!) Neil

I would be more than happy to put some threads together - the course Michael, Fergus and I have just been on had this scenario in mind and we are all looking forrward to putting our theory into practice. Someone can also give some briefing at the club before the first race and maybe a goup can do some debriefing on how people have done and what to think of working on next. What we are really lucky with at Kielder is that there are so many people to ask who are willing to share and help. The range of contributers to Neil's original thread has shown this. It is great to know we can approach any of them for help - for general or class specific advice. This is a resource to be used!

There is a great web based resource for Racing Basics which I re-read from time to time and always recomend to those attending my 'Start Racing' courses. Have a look - it is well worth while. Steve |
