Boat Cover
I'm on the point of ordering a new cover from Sail Register for my Drascombe but I can't decide whether to shell out the extra sixty quid (!) for the breathable version. I can see the advantages for a wooden boat but for a GRP one? Comments please! David M |

For a GRP boat there is not great technical reason for Breathable. I think they are much more robust than standard PVC type covers & last longer (PVC tends to rip). They also make breathables slightly oversize, so that they 'shrink to fit'. |

beathable covers are made form polycotton and are excellent if you will be storing sails etc inside your boat and if there is any damp in the boat it will dry out pvc covers tend to make make boats sweat when it gets hot and causes mildue not good. the main difference between Polycotton (beathable) and PVC covers is that the polycotton has much greather UV stabilty than PVC, so therefore lasts longer. Polycotton does shrink after it gets wet then drys out as with any cotton based material so we make them oversized byt roughly 3 -5 % |

Thanks for the replies - it's all academic now. I've just bought Frank's new & unused Sail Register cover, as he's decided a Drascombe Lugger's not big enough for him, so he's got a Longboat (3 ft longer) instead! David
