Calgary pervert pleads guilty to child porn charges
By KEVIN MARTIN, SUN MEDIA Cops investigating an Internet user trying to lure Calgary girls into prostitution found hundreds of kiddie porn pictures on his computers, court heard today. Crown prosecutor Jenny Rees, reading from an agreed statement of facts, said Ian Stuart Johnson also had 24 child pornography movies on computers in his residence and his parents’ home. Johnson, 26, pleaded guilty in Court of Queen’s Bench to charges of communicating for the purpose of prostitution and possession of child pornography. Rees told Justice Peter McIntyre the kiddie porn was found by Mounties investigating a complaint from the owner of the Nexopia chat site. Timo Ewalds told police an individual used four different user names between May 30 and Sept. 9, 2004, to contact girls between 14 and 16 years of age. Ewalds initially received a complaint in June, 2004, and after passing the information on to the police shut down the user name associated to an Internet protocol address linked to Johnson. He subsequently had to shut down three other user names originating from the same address, Rees told court. She said police “determined that Johnson was using all four user names ... and was trying to locate teenage girls, under the age of 18 years old, who would meet him and have sex with him in exchange for money or alcohol. “Of great concern were the contacts he made with teens who in fact appeared willing to meet him and take him up on his offer,” Rees said. The prosecutor said one girl, who was asked if she wanted to make and easy $100, agreed to meet him and indicated she wanted to talk via MSN using her hotmail account. “All of the communications the suspect had was with females that reside in Calgary,” said Rees. Searches were later conducted on computers in Johnson’s and his parents homes. “Hundreds of child pornography images were located, some of these being very graphic,” she said. At the request of defence lawyer Pat Horner, McIntyre ordered a pre-sentence report. McIntyre also agreed with Rees a psychiatric assessment to determine Johnson’s risk to the community should be prepared. Johnson, who remains at liberty, returns to court May 16. |
