My gearbox finally faltered this weekend. Slowly no oilpressure any more and I could just make it back to the jetty before the propshaft did not move any more.
The symptoms were: Slowly lowering of the oilpressure when the gearbox heats up. This was going on for some months now. Pressure went down from 7 Bar to 5-6 bar. No mechanical noises. This weekend after starting the engine the prerssure went slowly up to 5 bar and after 15 minutes dropped back to 1-2 bar, which is insufficient for switching the gear. No mechanical noises so internal gear seems not to be broken.
Anyway, I dismantled the gearbox.
First we had to pul back the propshaft. I still have the intermediate bearing fixed to the bulkhead so had to loosen the bolts that hold the bearing in place. After that i was able to move the propshaft with the bearing backwards and thus create some space to
move the gearbox away from the engine. This is necessary because the gearbox is attached to the damper plate on the fly wheel of the engine via a splained shaft. The gearbox had to be moved aftwards by about 10 centimeters. The bloody thing weighs about 100 kilogrammes. so i attached a tackle to the handgrips on the ceiling of the
wheelhouse and managed to lift the gear box to the floor of the wheel house. After that
I attached the tackle to the mizzen boom and lifted it in the cockpit, re located the boom and was able to lift and land the gearbox in a wheel barrow on the jetty. All in all about a 3 hours job.
On monday I phoned Kemper & van Twist who are supposed to be the Paragon dealers but
they send me to Drinkwaard Motoren in Sliedrecht. They confirmed that they repair
Paragon's so I went there and delivered the gearbox.

I told them to open the gearbox up and check it and then let me know what is the damage and how to repair. I am waiting for their call and will inform you as soon as I know
something more.
Will keep you posted.
