Purple Ribbons

Hi MOMS:

I was driving to work this morning and there was an announcement on the radio about the holiday season being the start of Mothers Against Drunk Driving ("MADD")ribbon campaign. MADD asks that everyone tie a red ribbon to their car's antenna in support of those that were victims of drunk driving.

I know I'm even more "crazy" than usual in the mornings but when I heard the word antenna, my eyes inadvertenly went to my antenna and although there are no ribbons on my car, for a brief moment I saw a purple ribbon. I know it is crazy but I knew it was a message that we should tie a purple ribbon on our antennas in support of our children. Then I remembered my pastor preaching that purple is the sign of royalty. I knew this would represent our children because even if the world didn't know our children were Princes and Princesses, they were and are even moreso now that they are in Heaven which makes them all royalty. I started thinking that if people tie red ribbons in support of MADD, pink ribbons in support of breast cancer and yellow ribbons in support of our troops, why can't we tie purple ribbons for our Princes and Princesses.

The first thing I did when I got to work was look on the Internet to confirm that purple signifies royalty before I told you all about this idea. MOMS, YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT I FOUND. The first site I clicked on not only confirms that purple symbolizes royalty, IT ALSO SYMBOLIZES SORROW AND SUFFERING. So not only would we be tying ribbons for our children, we will also be tying ribbons for ourselves. Here's the site I found, http://goinside.com/98/4/colors.html.

Purple seems to also be appropriate because it is a color that is neither masculine nor feminine. I know I'm probably going crazy seeing invisible ribbons on my car but I just wanted to know what my sister-MOMS thought of the idea. But look who I'm asking, y'all are just as crazy as I am (just kidding).

Love Your Eternal Sister

Re: Purple Ribbons

Tracey, I think that is a great idea. It's so amazing that you saw that color. That is so awesome. Definitely a sign. I've been really down lately. Seems that I'm not as strong as I thought. And everytime I hear something else involved with my daughter Melissa's murder case it takes it toll on me. I'm thankful for my faith in God and for this website. I don't write often but I do read what all you moms write everyday. It will be one year Dec 13 that Melissa was murdered. I'm not looking forward to Christmas and will be happy when it's over. I love the purple ribbon idea. Thanks for sharing that.

Love to all you moms. You are all in my prayers.

I REALLY like the idea of tying purple ribbons to our cars. Purple is one of my favorite colors anyway. Who cares what anyone else thinks we MOMS will know what it is all about.

Re: Purple Ribbons

I love the idea of putting purple ribbons on our cars. Purple is one of my favorite colors. The other one is green. I can make up lots of them and give them out to family and friends. Is there a specific day you would like to do this or is it going to be an everyday way to honor our children? I'm always thinking of ways to keep Mark's memory alive. We can even put something on it. Maybe have MOMS printed on it.

I just left work for a bit and noticed there is no antenna on my car. Rear view mirror will have to do for me.

Thank You MOMS:

I knew you wouldn't think I was crazy. I was thinking that since most if not all of us are going to light a candle on December 5 in rememberance of our children, maybe that would also be a good time to tie the ribbons on our cars.

I Love You All.

Tracey, what a wonderful idea. I will be on my way to the store first thing in the morning, even though there is about 3 inches of snow on the ground today. God Bless you and I do think the lord was guiding you today. God Bles each and every one of you.

Re: Purple Ribbons

I decided to look up purple in the bible. Here are some scriptures I found.

Mark 15:17-18 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. And they began to call out to him, "Hail, king of the Jews!"

John 19:2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe

Acts 16:14 One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.

Re: Purple Ribbons

Tracey,
Yes, purple is the color for the ribbons during victims rights week. You knew it was an important thing without "knowing" it. :) From what I have read, that week is usually during April.(of course we can fly our ribbons whenever we choose)
I loved your post, and the verses that you found.
Love,
Yvonne

Re: Purple Ribbons

Yvonne, I am shaking reading that not only does purple represent royalty through God, sorrow and suffering, but now I know it represents victim's rights. After I had my vision, I desperately tried to think if I had ever saw a purple ribbon on a car and although my memory is fading with age and grief, I don't think I ever saw on. The difference for us is that while most organizations display their ribbons for a set period of time, I plan on forever keeping my ribbon tied. Thanks for the info because now I really know my purple ribbon vision was inspired by God and that means he sees all of us and knows what we're going through and just used me as a messenger.

Love
Tracey
