Well I finally Did IT!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my sista MOMS. Well I finally did it. I got a tattoo. My very first. Some months back in the summer I saw a young lady at WalMart who had a baby portrait done on her upper arm and I thought what a nice tribute to her child. Since that time I had been wanting to get a tattoo of Josh done. I went with my 19 yo daughter to see if she was going to get her tongue pierced(against my wishes). Well the tattoo artist told her she should wait until after Thanksgiving or it would not be pleasant for her to eat. So while there she wanted me to see the portrait tattoo's the different tattoo artist had done. I have checked on this previously and have been quoted $300.00 at most shops. Well there was a young man there named Jonathan who showed me his portraits and I liked his work, considering the circumstances he said he would do it for $80.00. I was skeptical at first and my daughter said "Go ahead mom you can't beat the price and I will pay'. So it just so happens I had the picture I wanted done in my purse, and off the tattoo artist goes to enlarge it and make the print. After looking at the print I say "OK let's do this.' Well as I sat in his chair and endured the small pain I have to say I AM SO PLEASED WITH THE FINISHED PRODUCT! It took about an hour to complete and he said 'Most men don't take this as well as you have'. After he finished I looked in the mirror and I now see my sons face and will take him with me everywhere I go. The detail he put into it is so nice. I don't know if I will get any other tattoos as I have never been a fan of body art (probably because I didn't have the body to show off). However my daughter said now you have Josh on one arm you have to put me and Matts name on the other. Well I don't know when that will be, but I must say I am VERY happy with this one. I will post new pics soon on Joshua's website. I can feel him smiling now as he tried on numerous occasions to convince me to get a tattoo. Anyway tomorrow is Thanksgiving and Josh is going with me, his brother, and sister to Denver to join our other family in thanks. A little light is shining in the hole for a change. Hang in there my sista's and I pray for serenity for all! Luv & hugs to get u thru Kay |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
you go girl! I did the same thing shortly after the death of my boys and it was a huge step for me in the healing process. I had been wanting a tatoo for atleast ten years but had not decided on a design that i would want on my body forever-until jonny and eric died-then it came to me. I had a portrait of them together in a beautiful pose and took it to a tatoo artist known for his portriat work. I told him to take their clothes off and put wings on them like angels. he drew some clouds around them. it takes up the majority of my upper back and although i cannot see the tatoo myself (unless i look in the mirror) i love knowing that they have "got my back":). my tatoo took five hours to complete and the artist made the same comment as yours about how "tough" i was enduring the whole thing without as much as a flinch of pain. this was my first and only tatoo also. i think that when you have gone through something as painful as losing a child (or two) that a needle poking in and out of your skin seems like nothing. hopefully your tatoo will bring you as much comfort as mine did. god bless you on your journey |

I can't wait to see your tattoo of Joshua. I bet it's beautiful. I got a tattoo, but not a portrait. I got praying hands and on the side of it in chinese characters, it says "Markie's my angel in heaven". It's on my left shoulder blade. I really want to get a portrait done soon, just have to find the right person to do it. I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and our children a wonderful feast in heaven. |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
Way to go ladies! I also got a tattoo about a month after my Ty was murdered. It is on my ankle and is his name - TY - in script writing with a gold halo around one side of the T and then it has angel wings around his name. I am very proud of it just as I know all of you are of your tattoos. |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
You go ladies. If I got a tattoo, my daughter and grandchildren, as well as the rest of my family and friends, would think I had completely lost it. My son did have four tattoos: baby flaco (skinny baby - this is what his girlfriend called him) (which he got against my wishes at 17 yrs old) on his arm and then his three boys names on his chest.... He said he always wanted them near him. And, a hello to all of u. I have been busy working on a graphics website: http://pic7.piczo.com/myangelmichael And I am also working on the Candle Lighting Service to be held on December 10th at Mountain View Community Church in Fontana, CA. I have printed out all the pictures from MOMS and OurAngelFamilies to include on a large poster (possibly more) to have at the church... I go in the morning for an MRI. My doctor's office called me this morning and wanted me to have the MRI before December 8th. I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday. I am trying to think positive. Love to all |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
WELL BEVERLY, I GUESS I'M IN THE CATAGORY WITH YOU. EVERYONE ALREADY SAYS I'VE LOST MY MIND SINCE CHRISTOPHER DIED, BUT A TATTOO WOULD CERTAINLY CONFIRM IT. THEY ALL KNOW THAT I AM SCARED TO DEATH OF NEEDLES. ALTHOUGH CHRISTOPHER WAS ALSO SERIOUSLY AFFRAID OF THEM TOO... HE HAD 2 TATTOOS. NOW I HAVE TO SAY... I HAVE THOUGHT OF IT. WE RIDE HARLEYS AND IT SEEMS AS THOUGH EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE, BUT I HATE UM'. I LIKE RIDIN, BUT I JUST DON'T FIT INTO THAT BIKER B**** CATAGORY. I GUESS THE ONLY REASON I'VE THOUGHT OF ONE IS BECAUSE THERE IS SO MANY WAYS TO HAVE ONE DONE IN MEMORY OF CHRISTOPHER. I'LL LET YA'LL KNOW IF I HAVE A BRAIN FART AND GET ONE. HAH! MAYBE SOMEONE CAN COME UP WITH A WAY WE CAN POST YA'LL TATTOOS. WHO KNOWS IT MIGHT BE JUST WHAT IT TAKES TO PUSH THE REST OF US OVER THE EDGE. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU COURAGIOUS NONE NEEDLE FEARIN' WOMEN. I LOVE YOU ALL, KARREN |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
In the past, some of us have talked about meeting sometime in person. I think it would be great that if and when we do, we all get tattoos. I'll hold hands with all of you if you're afraid. Just thinking how cool that would be if we all did that in memory of our children. Just something to think about. |

WoooHooo to you Kay. I applaud you and what a great way to memorialize your Joshua. I for one am QUITE afraid of needles so the most I am can do at this point is purchase one of those ID bracelets with Myles' name on it. Anyway, can't wait to see pics of it. |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
Wow Kay! After reading your post I am pumped! What a wonderful feeling! My boyfriend asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I had no answer. BUT I DO NOW! I have some really cool action shots of Wes on his snowboard and airborn on his dirtbike! This is a good thing for me to think about, and come out of my hole to shop around for a good artist. I can't decide where to put it! Thanks Kay! I am so impressed by all the MOMS who have done the same! I have to agree....women are tougher than men, they (men) just don't know it. Karen Wes's mom |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
Michelle it wasn't that painful. More annoying than anything. I never saw the needle itself, it looks like a pen really. I am still very happy I had it done. Karen you are right check out the tattoo artist in your area. They should have a portfolio of their work. I have been all around the office showing it off and everyone really likes it. More importantly I carry him with me for others to see wherever I go. I just wanted to share what the experience has done for me. |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
i just wanted to add that my five hour tatoo was not painful and i am terribly afraid of needles. it was no where near what i had expected. but to be honest the three to four days following were pretty bad. i felt like i had been whipped. but would definately do it again. just do your research. let me add that color tatoos are more painful than black and white and that they require more maintenance. |

Re: Well I finally Did IT!
Kay, did you take some pictures of your tattoo yet? I would love to see it. I will take some pictures of mine and my husbands and let you ladies know when they're on Mark's website. I can't wait to get a portrait of Mark. |
