Re: candle light day
I've got an idea! Maybe if we could pick the date when there is a full moon it would be beautiful. Cause last year that cemetary was pretty dark. And I thought then that a full moon would have been great. JUST A THOUGHT! KARREN |

Re: candle light day
That sounds like a great idea. The last full moon here I was up with my insomniac self at 3 in the morning and was mesmerized by the moon because though the sky was a dark midnight blue there were very small single WHITE puffy clouds in expanding circles around the moon. They looked like they could have been angels, I was hoping so but even still, I can only imagine how amazing it will be one day to see thousands of angels. Love, Lorre |

Re: candle light day
I looked it up on compassionate friends and the day set for all parents who have lost a child is the 2nd Sunday of December at 7:00. I think we did it on the second Sunday and we had it figured out to where in some places it was 7:00 but other places it was either an hour ahead or an hour behind so we were all lighting our candles at the same time. Michelle it is an awesome feeling doing this most of us were at our childs grave and we all lit the candles at the same time from all over the states and even though most of us were thousand miles away it felt like we were right beside each other and just made our bond stronger. Maybe this year we could read the poem Grief as we light our candles or something else. I am open for any ideas. Thoughts and Prayers, Connie |

Re: candle light day
Here's more info...... Held annually the second Sunday in December, this year December 10, The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe as they light candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause. As candles are lit at 7 p.m. local time, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor children in a way that transcends all ethnic, cultural, religious, and political boundaries. Believed to be the largest mass candle lighting on the globe, the Worldwide Candle Lighting creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone. Hundreds of formal candle lighting events are held and thousands of informal candle lightings are conducted in homes as families gather in quiet remembrance of children who have died, but will never be forgotten. The Worldwide Candle Lighting started in the United States in 1997 as a small Internet observance but has since swelled in numbers as word has spread throughout the world of the remembrance. A memorial message board is available during the event at TCF's USA website www.compassionatefriends.org. Hundreds upon hundreds of postings are received each year from all over the United States, as well as dozens of other countries. Some messages are in foreign languages. Here in the United States, publicity about the event is widespread, being featured in the past in Parade Magazine, Ann Landers column, Guideposts magazine, Annie’s Mailbox, and literally hundreds of U.S. newspapers, dozens of television stations, and numerous websites. Information on the Worldwide Candle Lighting and planned memorial candle lighting services is posted on the TCF website at www.compassionatefriends.org each year as the event nears. The United States Senate has, for many of the 10 years of the Worldwide Candle Lighting, joined in the remembrance by unanimously passing resolutions declaring the second Sunday in December of each year National Children’s Memorial Day to coincide with The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting. If there is no Worldwide Candle Lighting service held near you, please feel free to use TCF’s “Guidelines for Holding a Worldwide Candle Lighting in Conjunction with the Worldwide Candle Lighting.” to plan a service open to the public. Don’t forget to return to this site to fill out the online memorial service information form so that TCF can list your service. The Worldwide Candle Lighting gives bereaved families everywhere the opportunity to remember their child . . . that their light may always shine! I missed the one last year because I was so deep in my hole, I couldn't find the strength to visit with my MOMS however, I will not miss it this year. I've even started telling my family and friends to join in. The more candles that are lit, the brighter are children's spirits will shine. Thanks for the info Beverly Love Tracey |

Re: candle light day
Hello to all MOMS, I have lit candles on this certain day. Mark was cremated and I have his urn at home. My family all light a candle and then we put them around his box. I call his urn a box because it is a box made of cherry wood. Mark loved boxes and I knew he would approve of this one. I have these little lanterns that I bought from Costco, it comes with four of them. I always keep one lit next to his box(urn). They are battery operated and come with the charging unit. It makes me feel good that there is always a light on for him. Have a good day MOMS. Love to you all. Randi |

Re: candle light day
I have been thinking, which is a scary thought in its self!!!!! Since there is alot of moms that the cemetary closes at a certain time, that we should build our candle lite ceremony around their time, What do you think?!? And for you that are new from last year, we all lit a candle at the same time, most of us were at the graveyard with our babies and loved ones. I think it was either Lorre or Deb that figured out what time it was in every state. So please every mother that wants to participate and your graveyard closes at disk or whatever time, let us know so we can get going and have this all figured out by the second Sunday in December!!! I was at Michael's Memorial Park in Victorville, CA and the director told me that they have a memorial in one of their chapels the 2nd weekend in December. I don't have all details yet. I do remember him saying that pictures of our loved ones will be displayed. Each of you might check your Memorial Park. I will let you know as I get more information. He said it was very nice. I'm sorry I haven't emailed of you back, but I have been in a really bad funky mood. It takes all the power I have to make it through each day. I will answer your emails when my frame of mind is better. Love Beverly |

Re: candle light day
Hi Girls, Thank you Beverly for the information from TCF. I know what we did last year was chose a time that we MOMS would all light our candles regardless of time zone. So we were all doing it together. That was what made it special. The furthest person east will be the latest according to time zones. So, we should probably chose a time that is earlier for those MOMS. What time does it get dark on the East Coast (Tracey?!). So, if it's 5PM there it will go backward to 2PM. I'm West Coast and I can light candles when it's light, it doesn't matter to me. Last year we used those 8 hour candles (I use the ones in vases that seem catholic). We need to agree quickly so, how about 12-05-2006 at 5, 4, 3, 2 PM? Or any other suggestions! LOVE, Lorre |

Re: candle light day
I don't mind lighting a candle in the loght either, if it helps all moms being able to get into the cemetary. My suggestion is that we need to know who's cemetary is closed at dusk and schedule it around them, what do you think? We need to do this asap only 21 days if we do it on the 5th. Re: candle light day
For anyone in California. I live in Victorville, but I am planning a Candle Light service on December 10th at 6:45pm at Mountain View Community Church, 8833 Palmetto Avenue, Fontana, CA. This is where my son attended church and this was where Michael's services were held. I have checked with Pastor Bob and he is willing to help me with this. Everyone is welcome. For any of the Families in the surrounding area that would like to attend, please email. I also am planning to have one large candle. This candle will be lit for families that live far away. If you will email me name and a picture, I will do the rest. I plan on this being a very comforting service for all families of a deceased child. All the details aren't final yet. Candles will be lit at 7:00 pm. Planning on reading a few poems, music and a message from Pastor Bob. Also, please let me know what time we will have the MOMS Candlelight? |

Ok, so we are lighting the candles at 5:00 whose time? I know it is for the moms that need to get in the cemetary before it is locked but need to calculate what time it is here. What a good idea Debbie with the candles. What do you think about each one of us taking a picture of our hand holding the candle, that way it would be our children surrounded by all our hands, kind like hands across the world. Just a thought but it might sound stupid to the rest of you. Thoughts & Prayers, Connie |

Good thinking Debbie! I was going to suggest to all MOMS that they be in the photo too. I like the hands idea. Was there a poem we can read? Re: candle light day
MOMS, if any one is interested I found a LED battery operated flicker candle for $7.99 at CVS pharmacy (I'm on the East Coast so I'm not sure if they have CVS in other parts of the country). I was so excited because I was going to leave a candle at the cemetary anyway knowing that it would probably go out at the slightest wind. A co-worker was with me when I found the candle and stated that I shouldn't leave the candle because someone might steal it. First of all, she hasn't lost a child because if she did she would know that $7.99 is a small price into knowing that when I drive away the candle would still be lit. Second, shame on any one who steals from a grave. But we all know how evil this world is so it probably will get stolen but they at least they can't steal my joy I will have by leaving it. Dear MOMS, I know the answer to my question already. I am stressed out over this candle lighting and feel really bad. I can go home and light it, I would love to, but I don't ever go home by myself. I don't stay home by myself. I'm not afraid or anything, just can't do it for some reason. Mark was cremated and his BOX (urn) is at home.
